News About 1606 BenefitsChange in rule for benefits1 September 2006 --
Big news I want to get out to all my X 1606'ers. The normal rule has generally been that to receive MGIB 1606 benefits a person must be actively drilling with their unit. I have just got wind of an exception to this which is not being advertised by either the VA or DOD. If a 1606er was deployed thus not being able to use their benefit they may still be eligible to use the 1606 benefit even if they are no longer actively drilling with the Guard/Reserve. They may be entitled to one month of eligibility for every month on active duty, plus four months for each deployment.
